Today’s article is taling about two pure Verdicchio wines from the Mirizzi winery: Ergo and Cogito A. Both wines are made from the grapes grown in Monte Roberto, one of the most suitable “Castles of Jesi” in the classical area.
The Selezione Mirizzi of the Montecappone agricultural company aims to show the expressive potential of the Verdicchio grape. They are grown in a vineyard located on steep slopes comparable to mountain ones, where the yields of the grapes are very limited, in fact, they are an extreme viticulture.
The company vineyard (about 6 hectares) is located on the right bank of the Esino river, on a hill near the castle of Monte Roberto, at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level.
The soils are yellow in colour and have a sandy consistency; they are made of arenaceous marl formations of the Miocene, (so-called Member of the Borello sandstones). The training system is Guyot with a vertical shoot positioning. The planting density is about 4,500 plants per hectare and the yield per plant is about 2.kg. The agronomic operations are carried out by hands, as well as the harvest, which allows an accurate selection of the grapes and takes place at the ideal moment of ripeness.
The company cultivates the vineyards according to the rules of sustainable viticulture, with limited use of synthetic chemicals, with the aim of affecting the environment as little as possible; the conversion to being fully organic is underway.
